Prospecting For FREE SILVER
I was on GIM and the discussion came up about Coinstar machines and how much silver they might contain after someone dumps their coins in there.
Someone familiar with the machines mentioned that they reject any coins that are pre-65 silver(along with canadian and other foreign coins). Walking out of my local grocery store I stuck my hand in the reject bin and found a 1957 dime! FREE SILVER! |
Re: Prospecting For FREE SILVER
I know a guy that's offered to give me one of the coinstar machines to sort my halves. He said that the copper pennies could also be configured as off-sorts, so they would be rejected as well. It seems like it might be kind of fun to do. With one of those machines, I could just go prospecting for everything and then just pile it in and call it a day.

Re: Prospecting For FREE SILVER
The bank I dump at has "coinstar" type machines in the lobby, no fee for acct holders. I have found many a silver dime waiting in the reject tray for ME. As far as rejecting halves I don't know- once when they had to change the bin I saw a Ben Franklin. I think they reject silver dimes and quarters based on weight cause they are lighter than the clad but silver halves are heavier than the clad. I would love to have an old machine to play with. I know someone who owns a company that processes these machines. He actively searches for silver in them via a differnt counting machine. They DONT reject silver halves!
